Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
Things You'll Need:
- Colorful cotton fabric - 1 ft makes 3 neck ties (look for sales or remnants to save $$$)
- Kool Krystals
- Sewing machine
- Scissors
- Thread
- Ruler
The fabric you purchase should be at least 36" wide. Cut it into 4" strips.
Fold the strip in half, so that it's 18" long. Then with your ruler, measure 8.5" from the fold and mark it. Do this on both sides. (this center section will become the pocket for your water crystals)
Unfold the fabric, and refold it lengthwise, with the back side of the fabric out. No need to pin it.
On your sewing machine, stitch the length of the fabric, with a 3/8" hem
Go back and double-stitch the center section that you have marked.

Now you need to turn the fabric "snake" right side out. Do this by attaching a safety pin to one end, and pushing it through the inside until the fabric is right side out. At this point, you can iron it flat to make the remaining steps easier
Fold the band in half, and measure 8.5" from the fold.
Double-stitch seam across the tie at the position measured in the previous step.
Insert 1 teaspoon of water crystals into the opening (check that you are adding them to the right end) and shake them down until all are sitting at the seam you just made.
Fold the band in half again, and check for the position of the second seam (to close the pocket). It should be directly across from the first when folded in half (pocket length will be 17").
Double-stitch across the tie at the position marked to close the pocket.
Now finish the ends by folding the fabric in, and stitching across them. You can do this at an angle to give it a more professional look.
To use, soak the tie/headband in water for 10 - 15 minutes. Watch it grow!

How To Make Cool Polymer Wraps
Hot flashes can be a thing of the past!
How to Make Cool Polymer Wraps

Many individuals have started cottage businesses making Cool Wraps and selling them at flea markets, craft shows, and fairs. Cool Wraps have become a very popular for keeping cool during the summer heat. Nevertheless, they have many healing properties as well, like alleviating headaches, stress and stopping muscle pain. Hot flashes can be a thing of the past!
Each cool wrap is made with medium sized polymers crystals. Cool Wraps work on the principal of evaporative cooling. Once the garden polymers are hydrated, the cotton fabric draws moisture from the crystals to the surface, which in turn evaporates resulting in an effective body cooling system. Use two Cool Wraps, keeping one in the refrigerator or ice chest, and as soon as it reaches body temperature, exchange it for a cooler one.
There are several ways to make Cool Wraps. Cotton fabric works best, because it has superior wicking properties. One favorite method follows:
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
Things You'll Need:
Scissors
Tape measure
Sewing machine
4 inch strips of fabric 45 inches long
1-3 teaspoons of medium polymer crystals
Cut one strip of fabric 4 inch wide from a fabric that is at least 45 inch wide.
Fold the fabric in half lengthwise your wrap should be 4 inch by 22 ½ inches. Mark the fold with a pin. This is the center of the Cool Wrap. Open the fabric flat again.
Measure and mark 7 inches on each side of the center mark.
Fold under both ends 1/4 inch and stitch a hem.
Fold the fabric right sides together. Your fabric should now be 2 inches by 45 inches. Use a 5/8 inch seam down the length of the Wrap. There should be 45 inches stitched totally.
Now, turn the tube right side out and press it. Stitch at the 7-inch marker of the right end of the tube, double stitch for strength. At this point, you should still have one end of your tube open.
Carefully pour 1-3 teaspoons of medium polymer crystals into the tube using a funnel. Stitch the tube closed at the left end of the other 7-inch marker. Reinforce with another row of stitching.
To use your Cool Wrap, soak in water for 15-20 minutes (hot water speeds the hydration process). As the polymer crystals soak up the water, "squash" them around so the polymer spreads out equally along the tube. Tie up your "Cool Wrap," and start reaping the benefits.
Tips & Warnings
Hang to dry. The polymers can rehydrate again and again. •The polymer crystals are used in soil for water retention. •The Cool Wrap can be soaked in cold or warm water. •If too many crystals are used, the polymer will seep through the fabric making slime. Generally, two teaspoons is all you need.
