Prostate cancer killed over 40,000 Americans in 1995. Prostate cancer is second only to lung cancer as a male cancer killer in the United States. Prostate is a gland within the male reproductive system that is located just below the bladder. The prostate surrounds the beginning of the urethra, the canal that empties the bladder. During normal aging, however, the gland usually grows larger. This enlargement with aging is called Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy (BPH). Both BPH and prostate cancer can cause similar problems in older men and resulting symptoms commonly include slowing of the urinary stream and urinating more frequently, particularly at night.

Prostatitis is another Prostate disease that causes pain and discomfort for many men. Prostatitis refers to inflammation (infected by bacteria) of the prostate gland. With Prostatitis, patient may have frequent urge to urinate or difficulty in urinating, burning during or after urination, and various sexual problems.
