Fiber supplements made with psyllium are inherently unpleasant tasting. To overcome the gritty poor tasting beverage that is created when you mix psyllium with water, manufactures are often required to add flavours and sweeteners to their products.

These sweeteners and flavours act as fillers, reducing the overall fiber content of the supplement, while at the same time adding unnecessary carbohydrates and calories.
